September Progress & Plans

The Trust is launching a major fundraising effort to make things happen in Penicuik.

The community-led campaigns to save the Town Hall, Ladywood and Jackson Street School are well known, and the Trust’s Saturday Open House exhibitions, recent years Arts Festivals, and the successful fortnightly cinema are now well established.

We are ready to sign the lease for the Penicuik Walled Garden restoration and Penicuik Food project. Now we have set our sights on a hydropower visitor attraction and national papermaking heritage centre by the river. We also want to do something to make Penicuik shop leases affordable to local traders by intervening in the market ourselves.

All this will take local effort and money, but for a worthwhile cause of putting real hope, pride and enterprise back at the heart of our community.
