The Green Cleugh is a steep, narrow pass between Hare Hill and Black Hill giving access to the upper Glencorse valley from Balerno. The Howe (NT 190620) is the (area round) the white house in the photograph above. The Logan Burn enters the Green Cleugh towards its southern end via a side valley. Just before this point, the Logan Burn cascades down a waterfall, a visit to whose foot is worth the short detour. After a week's good freeze, the Logan Burn falls yield a short winter route that is notable for having been the first ice climb made by one of Edinburgh and Scotland's greatest climbers, Robin Smith.
