Scald Law is the highest of the Pentland Hills and from its summit, most of the other Northern and Central hills and tops can be seen.
It is conveniently climbed from the lay-by on the A702 (NT 211608) and combined with its subsidiary top South Black Hill or East Kip and West Kip. Descending from South Black Hill to the village of Silverburn, requires a walk of just less than 1km, back along the A702 to the lay-by. From West Kip, it is a 1.7km walk back to the A702 lay-by from the end of the track past Eastside Farm.
A longer expedition is the full traverse of Turnhouse, Carnethy, Scald Law, East Kip and West Kip. This starts from the A702 at Flotterstone (NT 234631) and ends where the Eastside Farm track reaches the A702 (NT 198597), 5.1 km from Flotterstone. The journey back to Flotterstone may be made using a McEwans 100 bus via Penicuik.
